OVERVIEW


The Division of Cardiovascular Disease emphasizes excellence in patient care, teaching, and basic and clinical research. Basic and clinical research areas, and interfaces between them, are strongly encouraged. The very active clinical programs in the Division stress excellence in cutting edge, compassionate, and innovative patient care.  The Division provides both inpatient and consultative care at all of the hospitals in the UAB Medical Center, the Kirklin Clinic, and at the UAB Heart Health Centers.

Major areas of basic research are centered around and associated in the broad areas outlined below. The Division strongly encourages and supports the continuum of basic research programs from fundamental discovery through translational research and clinical investigation. Clinical research is closely associated with individual clinical cardiology services and encompasses a variety of opportunities and interactions with clinical faculty associated with numerous large NIH and industry supported multi-center clinical trials.
